My favourite genre is fantasy but I also love comedy, which means I am a big fan of Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Neil Gaiman and CK McDonnell. Truth is, I'll read anything!

Gina Robinson: The spy who left me (2011, St Martin's Paperbacks)

Review of 'The spy who left me' on 'Goodreads'

The first half of the book is the reason why I gave it 4 starts instead of 5. It starts a bit cliché with all the spy thing - US vs China, and the reason behind Ty and Treflee's break-up seems a bit forced. However, once we reach half the story Treflee takes over and she's caught in every possible mess a spy should be avoiding, even though she works it out as she thinks a spy would. With Ty at loss, plus a cousin who is an ex-bride to be and her very dangerous bridesmaids, Treflee gets through several comical adventures. All set in a lovely tropical island to make it very sexy, a loving maybe-to-be ex-couple is caught between several wars: their failed marriage, her cousin's cancelled marriage along with her girl-empowered bridesmaids plus the war that actually threats national security = great fun!

The first bad thing I have to say is that this book ends as an appetizer for the third book - which is frustratingly not out yet! Furthermore, I don't get why Charley doesn't just find Reyes' "father" since he is obviously alive (hope I'm not ruining any follow up lol). And last but definitely not least, how come she took so much time to find out where his body was? I knew the answer, and being so worked up about it definitely doesn't say good things about my mental health. Back to the book, Darynda Jones did it again! I couldn't help but laugh out loud while reading, and it made my day while I sat on the sofa immersed in its pages. The crimes Charley is trying to solve have their unexpected twists and the book is compelling through and through. I can't help but give it five …

A minha professora primária leu-nos este livro durante as aulas e eu apaixonei-me imediatamente pela fada Oriana. Ainda hoje me perco no livro e nas ilustrações... absolutamente incontornável.
