My favourite genre is fantasy but I also love comedy, which means I am a big fan of Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Neil Gaiman and CK McDonnell. Truth is, I'll read anything!

Richard MacDuff is somehow neglecting his girlfriend Susan due to his excess of work, and leaves a message on her answering machine that he immediately regrets. Richard then decides to break into Susan's apartment to erase the message, but he is caught in the act by the holistic detective Dirk Gently. When Susan's brother is murdered, Dirk decides to act on behalf of Richard, even if the police is not really suspecting him.
This book gets better every time I read it. I understand it is hard to keep up with the plot and characters, so I would suggest a new reader to just enjoy Adams' marvellous imagination and hilarious character development on a first read. The author is extremely quotable! When you think you understand what happened, then go read it again because the story eventually makes sense and you will be able to laugh twice as much.
Sookie decides to revaluate her life choices and decides she doesn't want to be involved with vampires anymore since it always results in her being hurt. That is, until she sees Eric running naked down with no clue of who he is or what happened for him to end up like that.
This is my favourite from the series and I guess that is set in stone since it started going downhill shortly after. Eric is the best character and gets totally developed in this book, while Sookie falls a bit into a whiney character. However, she always does what's right and that's what it is all about. There is a lot of humour here and that's probably why I like this one so much.

Sookie feels that her boyfriend Bill is more distant, and doesn't really know how to deal with him lying to her. However, once Eric tells her Bill is missing and probably cheated on her with a previous lover, she doesn't hesitate to help the vampires search for him. And to help her with this, she has the help of the nice werewolf Alcide.
I enjoyed this book's pace as much more happens and we get more of the outside world and less of Sookie's head. However, this book is laying foundations for the next ones as more supernaturals are brought into the light and Bill is slowly being pushed aside. It is a very entertaining read even after the second time.
