Since I'm reading the 5th book and enjoying it loads (insert a sight of relief here), I can finally write a review about this one. Cat and Bones are on their deserved holiday together and Cat starts having nightmares because of a vampire named Gregor. Turns out this vampire belongs to Cat's past and even though she can't remember a thing about him, he will throw a fight to get her back. This is where the story started slipping for me, mixing a new past to twist the present makes me cringe as I try hard not to think of eventual plot holes.

Then the main characters kind of turn stupid. I was surprised at how much of Cat's great attitude was lost in this book: she whines a lot, drinks a lot and is headstrong in a surprisingly stupid way since she knows Gregor is coming for her and …

Then the main characters kind of turn stupid. I was surprised at how much of Cat's great attitude was lost in this book: she whines a lot, drinks a lot and is headstrong in a surprisingly stupid way since she knows Gregor is coming for her and still tries to guess where she is or does what Gregor tells her to do. Where is the Cat that actually considered committing suicide when she thought Bones was dead?! And then Bones changes from loving and understanding to creating a massive wall between him and Cat. I don't think there is a reason strong enough to explain why they become so annoying and depressing. I really had to make myself finish this book. The way Mencheres acts doesn't make sense to me, and why is Gregor so powerful? He doesn't seem that good or at least it doesn't show from the story. Where are the kick-ass fights? The adventure? Suspense? Funny lines?...

My three stars go to the end of the book where the story finally starts and of course, it's over shortly after. I love Night Huntress books and I would never think about not reading another Cat and Bones book, but honestly this one was a painful read for me.
